Mid Winter Update from the Rio Grande Valley

My how the time flies! We are in the midst of our fifth year volunteering at the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge. We are still seeing some new areas and of course visiting our old favorites, like this lunch spot at Boca Chica, where the big river meets the gulf of Mexico. We are thankful to have the same work truck and management as prior years.
One day we received the assignment to checkout the southeastern most refuge tracts, Southmost and Boscaja de la Palma. Boscaja de la Palma tract is adjacent to the Sabal Palm Sanctuary, which made an ideal spot for lunch. The newly restored 1892 Plantation house is now the Visitor Center.
