While posting signs on the new fence at the Cuevitas tract, we came across this large Red Eared Slider. He was hurrying (well as fast as a turtle can hurry) across the road trying hard to get out of our way.
Our time here this year, in the Lower Rio Grande Valley Refuge, is coming to a close. We have already experienced two 100+ degree days. The birds are moving north and so are we.

It was great seeing yall at the volunteer banquet last night. I wish we could have spent some time visiting while we were all down here. Hopefully we will run into yall again soon.

We too would have enjoyed visiting more with you this year. Will you be returning to the Valley next winter? We plan to come back here and do the same job. Have safe travels to Colorado.
We won't be coming back here next year. We have accepted a position at Inks Lake State Park (in the Texas Hill Country) for next Jan - Mar. We'll get back down here some time in the future but for now we're ready to try something new.
