Grand Canyon - North Rim

On Tuesday, September 24, we took a day trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park from Hurricane, Utah. This was about 130 miles each way. We were there in 1995. It was fun to revisit.

Grand Canyon Lodge
The Lodge was built in 1928. Shortly after it was completed a kitchen fire destroyed much of the main building. It was rebuilt and opened in 1936.
Grand Canyon Lodge
We had a very nice buffet style lunch in the Lodge dining room. It mostly consisted of soup and self-made sandwiches on homemade bread. Fresh baked cookies for dessert.
The view from the Lodge back porch was breathtaking.

Bright Angel Point Trail
This half mile steep, paved trail to a spectacular view of Grand Canyon, begins at the Lodge.
Non stop views along the trail
Virginia sat next to the 3,000 foot plunge.
The trail ended at Bright Angel Point.
At times we walked along a drop off on both sides.
Observation Point Behind the Lodge

Point Imperial
Following another branch in the paved road takes you to Point Imperial. This is the highest point along the rim.

Cape Royal
Continuing past  the Point Imperial turnoff, we followed the road another 15 miles to Cape Royal.
Angels Window
The bison were having their dinner as we began our return to our home base.
