Lofoten Island, Norway

Lofoten is an archipelago at the mouth of the same fjord as Narvik. Home to breathtaking jagged peaks, a temperate summer climate and sheltered bays, the Lofoten Islands stretch 118 miles into the Norwegian Sea.
Cod has long been harvested from the sea.
This is an example of how fish is dried in the traditional manner in Lofoten. Often it is hung on very large drying racks, for up to 16 weeks.
We were docked at the Leknes Port.

PANORAMIC LOFETEN BY LAND AND SEA
Our excursion involved both a bus and boat tour. We boarded a bus to the village of Henningsvaer where we walked around the harbor and then boarded a boat for a tour and trip back to the Viking Saturn.
The tour boat coming to pick us up.
The picturesque village of Henningsvaer.
The rugged coastline of the archipelago.
The boat ride back was about an hour and a half. We sat at the stern wrapped in a blanket.
We saw a pod of orcas that approached the boat chasing bait balls of herring.
Leaving port, bound for Tromso.
